additional style, while heated exterior mirrors keep visibility at a
maximum during poor weather. Fog lamps are standard on the 2LT and LTZ
trims, and the LTZ also comes with automatic headlights and a power
liftgate. The 2012 Equinox has a standard
six-speed, automatic transmission and a 2.4-liter, 4-cylinder engine.
This engine offers 182 horsepower and 172 lbs/ft of torque for good
acceleration. An optional 3.0-liter, V6 engine is available for the LT
and LTZ models, providing 264 horsepower and 222 lbs/ft of torque for
greater passing power and acceleration. Above the LS model, optional
all-wheel drive can replace the standard front-wheel drive for better
control in slick conditions. EPA mileage estimates rate the standard
Equinox at 22 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. The more
powerful V6 engine delivers an estimated 17 mpg in the city and 20 mpg
on the highway. Using all-wheel drive results in slightly lower mileage
for both engines. Safety features are abundant on all
Equinox models. Antilock brakes, stability and traction control, front
and side-curtain airbags, tire-pressure monitors, an antitheft system
and remote, keyless entry are all included. OnStar assistance is also
standard, providing a variety of safety monitoring and contact systems. A
rearview camera is standard except on the LS. The comfort benefits of
remote ignition are standard in the 2LT and LTZ and optional on the 1LT.
The top-level LTZ alone features rear parking assistance and a new,
optional, front-collision, lane-departure warning system to help prevent
driver error. The interior of the Equinox includes
MyLink, a partially hands-free interface that accesses entertainment
