The All-New 2012 Chevrolet Sonic:
Big Performance at a Compact Price

The 2012 Chevrolet Sonic is all new and is intended to replace the Chevrolet Aveo. The 2012 Chevrolet Sonic is available in both a sleek, European-influenced four-door sedan and a spunky two-door hatchback. Both configurations incorporate four cylinder engines and five-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmissions. Three trim levels are available for both the sedan and the hatchback and along with the optional turbocharger offer a number of customization possibilities for buyers.

The 2012 Chevrolet Sonic offers buyers a choice of a 1.8 liter inline four-cylinder or turbocharged intercooled DOHC 1.4 liter inline four-cylinder engine; both offer 138 horsepower. The standard engine provides 125 pound-feet of torque, while the turbo model boosts that to 148 pound-feet. The 2012 Chevrolet Sonic is available in either a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy is estimated to be around 28 miles per gallon for city driving and 40 miles per gallon highway.

The 2012 Chevrolet Sonic offers a standard 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine with an optional turbocharged intercooled 1.4-liter model as well; both produce 138 horsepower, but the turbocharged model delivers slightly better acceleration for the same fuel economy. While the 2012 Chevrolet Sonic will not be competing with performance cars, it does provide a responsive and peppy ride for drivers and a fair degree of comfort for passengers.

The 2012 Chevrolet Sonic is a definite upgrade from the Chevy Aveo in terms of rear-seat room and offers adequate head and legroom for passengers in both front and rear seats. Air conditioning and a four-speaker AM/FM CD stereo are expected to be standard equipment along with the usual array of MP3 and iPod hookups. Hands-free calling, roadside assistance and turn-by-turn navigation will also be available through the OnStar service. The LTZ trim level adds cruise control, power windows and locks, six-speaker stereo system with Sirius XM satellite radio and USB connectors for added musical versatility.
